Rochelle Fitzgerald: Aceable Agent of the Week

Rochelle Fitzgerald | Keller Williams Realty - Lake Cities

How long have you been in the industry and how did you first get started in real estate?

14 years ago I became a licensed real estate agent because my husband and I were not satisfied with how our agent represented us on our first home. I used the motivation to build my business based upon education and customer satisfaction. As a result, my business is 90% referral based and repeat clients.

What's the most interesting or most important thing you've learned in a real estate continuing education course?

I am always fascinated with the case studies and how many legal mistakes trained agents make. The majority of the cases are agents that did a favor for a friend or family member which resulted in a law suit. The courses taught me to take my license seriously and abide by the law.

What do you consider your greatest accomplishment during your time in real estate?

There have been numerous real estate awards and accomplishments over the years but the one thing that makes me smile is when I receive a call or text from my clients during their life changes. I am the one they think about when they get married (buy their first home), have kids (buy a bigger home), divorce (sell their home), retire (downsize their home), etc. Of all the people in the world, I get to help them through every phase of their lives - good or bad - and I consider it a privilege to be that close to them and their families that they call ME. Little ole me. Can I share with you a touching story? A few years ago I assisted a couple in purchasing their first home together. Both of them had their own grown children and grandchildren. We stayed in touch over the years, even caring for some of their referrals. But one day I received a phone call from her son. It was bad news. He informed me that not only did she pass away recently but that he got sick shortly thereafter and died just 3 weeks after she did. Her son said, "You are the first business person we called because they talked about you all the time. And we know that you took good care of them and will take good care of us. Tell us what to do." I miss those clients dearly and they still owe me a bbq on their awesome patio.

What is the trait you most admire in other real estate agents or brokers?

Consistency. Those agents that consistently run a real estate business year after year after year earn my respect.

What books, websites or courses do you recommend to those in the real estate industry and why? (Please write at least two sentences.)

The book The Millionaire Real Estate Agent by Gary Keller was a business changer for me. I changed from haphazardly doing business to running a business with a purpose. Yes, that's right - to choose to be a real estate agent is choosing to run your very own business. Follow the book, step by step. I did.

What advice do you have for new agents who are just starting out in the business?

You must have the drive and motivation and stamina to make it in this business. You must run your daily business plan to make the yearly income you desire to make. Be accountable. You are your paycheck.
