You can sign up to take the Texas real estate exam after you have passed all six 30-hour pre-licensing courses.

You submit your license application online at TREC's website.My License Services Once you get approval from TREC, you can choose a test time and location on the Pearson VUE website.

The test is 125 questions divided into two sections: 85 national questions and 40 state questions. You'll have 150 minutes for the national portion of the exam and 90 minutes for the state portion.

To pass, you need to answer 56 national questions and 21 state questions correctly.

You can complete your final exams in the comfort of your own home, and as of September 3, 2025, final exams for Texas Pre-Licensing courses no longer require proctoring. All Texas students accessing their course final exams on or after that date will now be able to take their exams without a proctor.

As you reach the end of each of your Texas Pre-Licensing courses, here’s what to expect from the final exam process:

• Each course exam consists of 60 multiple-choice questions and has a 2-hour time limit. You must score 70% or higher to pass. You're allowed two attempts to pass the final exam.

Each exam is now open book. However, it's important to note that the State Licensing Exam is closed book and proctored in person. We strongly recommend taking your course exams closed-book to ensure you know the material well enough to pass your Licensing Exam!

There are just a few steps to getting a real estate license in Texas.

First, make sure you qualify. Then, you need to complete 180 hours of pre-licensing education, broken up into six 30-hour courses. Each course has a final exam.
