How to Look Up Your North Carolina Real Estate License

If you need to look up the status of your North Carolina real estate license or check the status of another real estate professional’s license, you can do so quickly and easily thanks to the North Carolina Real Estate Commission (NCREC)’s website.

How Do I Look Up My North Carolina Real Estate License?

Here’s how to find your license information (or the information for other licensees) online:

  1. Go to the NCREC Online Database. There's no need to create an account or log in. Anyone can search the records at any time.

  2. Use the “search by” fields to find the license you’re looking for. You can search by name, license number, or location.

  3. Review the search results to find the licensee you were looking for.

That’s all there is to it!

If you want to look into your license information and status further and/or make changes, you can go to the NCREC website and login to your record using your PIN. Unless you have changed it, this is set as the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number.

What If My License is Incorrect?

If your basic contact information (i.e. email address, home address, phone number) has changed or is incorrect, you can update these online by logging into your record on the NCREC website. For corrections or updates to your name or firm affiliation, you will need to submit a form to NCREC.

If your name has changed, you must submit Form 1.22, Request BROKER Name Change And/Or Request To Replace BROKER License/Pocket Card.

To terminate your affiliation with a firm or sole proprietorship, submit Form 2.22, Request to Terminate Your Affiliation with a Firm or Sole Proprietorship.

If your affiliation has changed and you are a provisional broker, your BIC must submit Form 2.08, License Activation and Broker Affiliation. If you are a full broker, your BIC or you may submit Form 2.08.

What If My License Is Expired?

Real estate licensees in North Carolina must renew their license every year. If you let your license expire, the requirements to reinstate it will depend on how long it has been expired.

License expired for less than 6 months:

  1. Go to the NCREC homepage.

  2. Click “Reinstate Your License”

  3. Login using your license number and PIN (last 4 of your SSN unless you have changed it)

  4. Answer the required questions

  5. Pay a $90 reinstatement fee

Note that in order to regain an active license status, a License Activation / Affiliation form (REC 2.08) must also be submitted.

License expired for 6 months but no more than 2 years:

Option 1:

  1. Complete a 30-hour post-licensing course within 6 months of submitting the reinstatement application.

  2. Submit the reinstatement application along with a $90 application fee and all required documents, including a criminal background check.

Option 2:

  1. Submit the reinstatement application along with a $90 application fee and all required documents, including a criminal background check.

  2. Pass the National and State sections of the licensing exam.

License expired for more than 2 years:

If your license has been expired for more than 2 years, you must essentially start the pre-licensing process over, which includes completing an approved 75-hour pre-licensing course, submitting the application, and passing the National and State sections of the licensing exam.
