Illinois Managing Broker License Renewal Guide for 2025

If you’re a managing broker in Illinois, your license renewal deadline of April 30, 2025, is coming up. Renewing your license on time is essential for staying legally active and avoiding penalties.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to renew your Illinois managing broker license, how many continuing education hours you need, and what happens if you miss the deadline.

When Does Your Illinois Managing Broker License Expire?

All Illinois managing broker licenses must be renewed by April 30, 2025. Renewal ensures you maintain an active status and can continue working legally as a real estate professional.

Continuing Education (CE) Requirements

Your CE requirements for managing brokers are based on the date your license was issued:

If your license was issued before February 1, 2023:

  • 12-hour Broker Management CE course

  • 4 hours of Core CE

  • 8 hours of Elective CE (must include 1 hour of Sexual Harassment Prevention Training)

  • Total: 24 CE hours

If your license was issued between February 1, 2023, and January 31, 2025:

  • 4 hours of Core CE

  • 8 hours of Elective CE (must include 1 hour of Sexual Harassment Prevention Training)

  • Total: 12 CE hours

If your license was issued on or after February 1, 2025:

  • No CE is required until your first renewal deadline on April 30, 2027.

Courses must be taken through an IDFPR-approved real estate education provider.

  1. Log in or create your account.

  2. Start your renewal application.

  3. Complete the renewal questions.

  4. Pay the $250 renewal fee.

If you renew after April 30, the total jumps to $325 due to a $75 late fee.

What Happens If You Miss the Deadline?

If you don’t renew, your license becomes inactive. While you can still renew afterward, you can’t legally conduct real estate business or receive commissions until your license is reactivated. If you’re unsponsored, you’ll remain in “Inactive” status until you affiliate with a brokerage.

CE Exemptions for Attorneys

Are you a licensed attorney in Illinois? You're exempt from CE requirements, but you still need to complete the license renewal application.
