What is Covered in the Georgia Post-licensing Real Estate Course?

Just got your Georgia real estate license? Congrats! Now it’s time to get cracking on your post-licensing course. That’s right, you’re not quite done with your real estate learning journey. Let’s talk about what you’ll see in the course.

Who Needs to Take the Georgia Post-licensing Real Estate Course?

Every newly-licensed salesperson in Georgia needs to complete the 25-hour post-licensing education course. If you have a Georgia real estate license and this is your first renewal period, that’s you!

When Do You Need to Complete the Georgia Post-licensing Real Estate Course?

License holders have one year from the date their licenses were issued to complete the course, including passing the course exam.

Twenty-five hours might not sound like a lot compared to the 75 hours you did in the pre-licensing education course, but it’s in your best interest to leave plenty of time to complete your post-licensing course. If you fail to finish by the deadline, your license will lapse, and you’ll have to go through the process to reactivate it. Start your post-licensing education early so you won’t be stressed about finishing on time.

What Is in the Georgia Post-licensing Real Estate Course?

Okay, let’s talk about what you’ll see in the course itself. The Georgia Real Estate Commission’s rules for the course require the curriculum to focus on, “legal fundamentals and/or basic practices in sales or management of residential, agricultural, commercial, or industrial properties.”

If the course focuses on residential sales, it’s required to cover Georgia's Residential Mortgage Fraud law and methods for identifying possible fraud in transactions and properly reporting alleged fraud.

Other than that, education providers have a lot of leeway to decide what should go in the course, so there’s a lot of variety between different course options. Shop around and find the one that looks interesting to you!

Is There a Test?

One similarity between all Georgia post-licensing courses is the exam. Every course is required to have a 50-question end-of-course exam (to make sure people were paying attention!). The law only allows a single retake of the exam. If someone fails the exam twice, they have to do the whole 25 hours over again. Better study!

The good news is that unlike with pre-licensing education, there is no state-level test for post-licensing education. Once you pass the course exam, you’re in the clear.
