Fastest Growing Cities in Colorado

Colorado is flourishing. Seven of the fastest-growing cities in Colorado were included in the top fifty American boomtowns enjoying rapid growth. The top fifty cities were chosen for their upswing in population, along with strong housing and business growth. And good news for you — this growing population will need knowledgeable real estate agents ready to handle the surge in buyer demand.

Don't have your Colorado real estate license? Now's a great time to start the process. Healthy housing markets commonly see an increase in total sales along with higher average home prices.

"A record number of homes were sold in July in Colorado — transactions were up 21 percent compared to July of 2019," said Kathleen Kuhn, President, and CEO of HouseMaster. "Moreover, home prices — nearly $450,000 — are also at record highs in the state. Colorado has some of the hottest, fastest-growing real estate markets in the country."

Let's take a look at Colorado's top three fastest-growing cities.

Longmont Is Number One

Longmont is the fastest growing city in the U.S., leading the nation as well as the state.

The population has grown by 15.2 percent since the 2010 census. This is thanks to a robust job market and first-rate educational opportunities. Low unemployment, population growth, new business development, and a strong housing market drive the boom.

Tech companies like Google, Qualcomm, IBM, and Medtronic are a steady source of jobs for graduates from the University of Colorado. At the same time, Longmont's burgeoning business sector has a healthy mix of industries, from tech to craft brewing and food processing.

The active tourist industry caters to visitors to the Rocky Mountain National Park. Businesses in the town support skiing, rock climbing, cycling, and other snow sports. The biggest skydiving facility in all Colorado is in Longmont.

Greeley Is Number Three

Population data from the U.S. Census in 2019 ranks Greeley and the surrounding region as one of the fastest-growing areas in America. As of July 1, 2020, the City of Greeley was the ninth-largest city in Colorado.

Greeley's prosperous, vibrant economy includes the agriculture, energy, and insurance industries. The manufacturing, health, and construction sectors are also expanding. A steady stream of potential employees comes from the University of Northern Colorado each year.

According to U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner, Greeley was one of the top job-creating cities in the country in 2019.

Denver Is Number Seven

Denver isn't called the mile high city without good reason. There's a step on the State Capitol Building that is precisely 5,280 feet above sea level.

Among Denver's big advantages is its diverse economy. Industry sectors include broadcast and telecommunications, aerospace, bioscience, financial services, and IT software.

Cleantech, healthcare, and wellness are having constant rapid growth. And the energy and natural resources industry is worth almost $11.4 billion annually.

Denver is also home to many colleges and universities, museums, art districts, and a lively music scene.

Four More Top Colorado Cities

Four other Colorado cities are included in the top fifty boomtowns list. Fort Collins weighs in at number fifteen, while Highlands Ranch is number thirty. Arvada is number thirty-four, and Thornton is number forty-two.

The state encourages economic growth with its policies and assets. The resources and research facilities of Colorado State University attract high tech companies. People move because of the favorable job market, economic growth, and an income tax rate of 4.5 percent.
