4 Books and Podcasts Every Woman in Real Estate Should Know

According to the latest data from the National Association of Realtors (NAR), 66% of agents identify as female. This makes real estate one of only a handful of woman-dominated fields. Luckily, that majority means there are plenty of resources to help other women succeed in the industry.

With that in mind, we asked successful female agents to share the top books and podcasts that every woman in real estate should know about and they gave their best recommendations. Check them out to them to help put your career on the right trajectory.

Real Estate Today Podcast

The Real Estate Today podcast works a bit like a call-in show. The hosts accept real-life real estate scenarios from listeners. Then, they talk through that scenario during the course of the episode, providing real-time solutions and advice.

"I have learned a lot listening to this podcast," said Baily Moran, Chief Operating Officer of Austin TX Realty. "I make notes of the tips they offer to new entrants. [The hosts] give great solutions and offer credible insights into the industry's latest trends."

Your First 365 Days in Real Estate Book

Whether you've been in the business for a while or it's your first year in real estate, it never hurts to go back to basics. Your First 365 Days in Real Estate by agent Shelly Zavitz is one resource that many agents swear has helped them jumpstart their businesses. If you need more convincing to pick up this book, consider Kathie Chrisicos's recommendation. Chrisicos is a Sales Agent with William Raveis in Boston, MA:

"It's a great read about the basics after receiving your hard-won license," she advises. "The book was offered as a complement to the training and procedures of the brokerage I joined. I found it to be the perfect zero to 60mph tool for all things I needed to know as a newly-minted real estate agent."

Girls Who Invest Podcast

As you might be able to guess from the title, the Girls Who Invest podcast is aimed at female real estate investors. It's hosted by two established, women investors. They offer expert advice on everything from how to find deals to negotiating the best terms and managing rental properties. Each episode centers around a different real estate investing topic, which they explore in depth.

"I think it's a great resource for anyone who wants to take their real estate career to the next level," says Carmelo Carrasco, Founder of Axel Property Management in Allentown, PA.

The Go-Giver Book

Unlike some of the other resources on this list, The Go-Giver by Bob Burg and John David Mann does not focus on providing real estate strategies and tips. Instead, it focuses on helping sales professionals shift their mindset from meeting quotas to giving and helping clients solve their pain points. The book holds that, once this shift occurs, abundance will follow.

"This book is an easy read," says Natiesha Wray Henry, a Real Estate Consultant with Century 21 Edgein Pembroke Pines, FL. "It teaches valuable lessons about how to focus on giving value instead of running after a paycheck. It was particularly helpful to me because there is so much pressure to sell as many houses as you can and make the big bucks. The book teaches that success in real estate will come when you focus on helping others."

The Bottom Line

Now is a great time to be a woman in real estate. Not only is the field female-dominated, but there are also plenty of resources available to help you succeed. Use the books and podcasts recommended in this article to help jumpstart your real estate career.
