5 Steps to Getting a Florida Real Estate License

Florida real estate is booming! The Sunshine State has been enjoying substantial population growth for years, and all those new Floridians need a place to call home.

Subsequently, Florida real estate agents have seen a boost in their earnings as they assist more buyers and sellers in this hot market. The annual mean wage for real estate agents in Florida was $62,790 in 2019, with agents in the 90th percentile in the Tampa market making nearly $150,000!

And you won’t need an expensive college degree or years of industry experience to get your Florida real estate license. Just follow this simple five-step process and get your Florida real estate license online in just a few months.

Step 1: Meet the Basic Qualification Requirements

Anyone hoping to pursue a career as a Florida real estate agent needs to meet three basic qualification requirements, established by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR)

  1. Be at least 18 years old.

  2. Have a high school diploma (or GED).

  3. Have a Social Security number.

Step 2: Complete Your Florida Real Estate Course

To help you understand the basics of real estate sales and transactions, DBPR requires you to complete a 63-hour Florida real estate course. And to make this course as accessible as possible, many state-approved real estate schools offer the Florida real estate course online.

Choosing a real estate school is your first critical step as a future real estate agent. Some “online programs” are nothing more than a PDF textbook emailed to you, along with an online course test. Choose a school that offers engaging course materials that will help you understand and remember the concepts. AceableAgent even includes exam-prep in your Florida real estate course package to give you the best possible chances at passing your real estate exam on the first try.

Step 3: Apply for Your Florida Real Estate License Online

Before you can schedule your real estate exam, you must apply for your Florida real estate license online. This gives DBPR a chance to make sure you qualify to sit the exam.

You can apply for your license online as soon as you complete your Florida real estate course. Proof of course completion will be required with your application, as will the $83.75 application fee.

It can take up to 30 days for DBPR to review your application. They’ll notify you when you’re approved to sit your real estate exam.

Step 4: Pass Your Florida Real Estate Exam

The Florida real estate exam is administered by a third-party provider called Pearson VUE. You’ll be able to schedule your exam online by registering and paying the $36.75 exam fee. Exams have traditionally required in-person attendance, but because of COVID-19, you have the option to take the proctored exam from home.

On the day of your exam, you’ll need to have two forms of ID with you, along with your real estate course completion certificate. Even when testing from home, you’ll need to show these items to your proctor via webcam.

You’ll have three hours to complete 100 multiple-choice questions. You’ll need to answer at least 75 of the questions correctly to pass.

Step 5: Activate Your Florida Real Estate License

When you pass your real estate exam, you’re ready to activate your Florida real estate license and get to work!

This final step requires you to find a licensed Florida broker to sponsor your work as a new real estate agent. Take your time interviewing multiple brokers to find the best fit for you. Your new broker will then complete the RE11 DBPR Form to officially activate your Florida real estate license.

With your new license, you can start representing buyers and sellers throughout the state! Your new career is waiting. Enroll in your Florida real estate course online today.
